A joyful, positive attitude and talkative nature are two attributes Dona
uses daily in her role as a human resources recruiter. "I find that interacting
with people and networking enables me to be creative and come up with fresh
ideas." Dona is a member of several professional human resources (HR)
organizations. She also reads professional books, magazines, white papers, and
recruiting publications, all in an effort to make sure she is attracting
talented people to St. Jude Medical. Dona's key duty is to recruit the best
talent she can find. She performs full cycle recruiting and partners with
hiring managers for various departments at our Neuromodulation Division.
People inspire Dona. "I got interested in HR during my master's program at
Illinois State University. My major was Economics. I chose HR as my minor
because I wanted to learn more about the United States as a workplace."
Luckily for Dona and St. Jude Medical, she met two passionate professors in
the HR program and that's what led to her decision to focus on a career in HR.
"As a company's most important asset, people are the foundation of a productive
and vibrant workplace. I love being an HR professional because we manage the
most important resource of the company, the employees."

The search for the best and brightest employees can be tough and expensive. "In
today's global business environment, people are the main source of competitive
advantage. As more baby boomers start retiring, the war for talent will
intensify." Dona is doing what she can to prepare for the upcoming battle
for talent. She contributes by thinking creatively and coming up with
imaginative hiring practices, along with remembering that retaining current
talent is important.
"Traditional recruiting methods, like Web sites and job boards are effective,
but we are finding more and more candidates turning to social networking sites,
blogs, and podcasts in their employment search." Does Dona have a blog? Make
sure to ask if you interview with the Neuromodulation Division in Plano, Texas.
