In the role of supervisor for leads manufacturing, Sofie handles production
planning and follow-up to make sure St. Jude Medical delivers the correct
product ordered by the customer. She also is responsible for developing her
staff and tackling any performance issues that arise. Her goal is to
continuously improve the way her team works and contributes to product
manufacturing and delivery to our customers.
As with many people around the world, Sofie believes we must do more with less
to have sustainable resources on the planet. "As the number of people increases
and shares the same resources, we will need to engage even more in finding
better manufacturing methods that require fewer resources." She also believes
the future focus for the medical device industry will be to shift from curing
diseases to preventing them. "We will need to explore possibilities to use our
products in new ways and to expand our knowledge on what we can do or how we
can design devices that detect and monitor early stages of illness and
disease."

Because of St. Jude Medical's worldwide presence, the company is large enough
to provide many career opportunities at various geographic locations. Sofie
sees the company as "large enough to provide challenges, but small enough to
make you feel important and allow you to make an impact."
Sofie has had the opportunity to work in various departments since starting at
St. Jude Medical 11 years ago. Regardless of which team she was on, she saw
"excellent, committed colleagues where everyone worked together to design,
produce, and sell quality products." She believes this commitment and pride
within St. Jude Medical differentiates the company from others in the medical
device industry.
