Canadian Residents (Other than British Columbia and Québec)

Class Certification

On January 28, 2005, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice decided to allow a lawsuit against St. Jude Medical to proceed as a class action on behalf of all Canadian residents, other than residents of British Columbia or Québec, who were implanted between July 1997 and January 2000 with a St. Jude Medical mechanical heart valve or annuloplasty ring coated with Silzone, and certain of their family members.

The Court has not decided the merits of the plaintiffs' claims or St. Jude Medical's defenses, and has not determined whether there is anything wrong with Silzone-coated heart valves or annuloplasty rings. Likewise, the allegations made by the plaintiffs have not been proven in court and should not be considered medical advice concerning any valve or ring recipient's specific circumstances. Anyone with a Silzone-coated heart valve or annuloplasty ring who has questions about his or her medical condition should consult a physician.

Have a question about whether you were implanted with a heart valve or annuloplasty ring that was coated with Silzone? Refer to the frequently asked questions or call 888.276.4170.
