Position Yourself to Succeed: Interview Tips
Your resume is solid, and you have the skills we need. Now come the interviews.
A human resources representative will first get in touch with you for a discovery phone interview. Someone from the hiring team may conduct a second call. These calls are great opportunities for you to ask questions about the company and requirements of the position. Please answer our questions honestly and completely.
If we like what we hear, we will invite you to one or more on-site interviews.
We recommend that you research St. Jude Medical before the interview. We are a medical device company. We are not affiliated with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Jude Medical Center.
Feel free to ask your human resources representative questions about our company. In addition, compile a list of questions you would like to ask the interviewer.
Anticipate questions about your real-world experience, and prepare to talk about examples of projects or experiences in past positions. Think about how you have used your imagination, led with character, worked with passion and shared a different perspective. These are traits we value.
Make a good first impression:
- Dress professionally.
- Know the exact location of your interview, how long it takes to get there, parking, the sign-in process, etc.
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled interview time.
Make a good lasting impression:
- Relax; our questions help us evaluate your interest and skill set.
- Maintain good eye contact during the interview.
- Ask for clarification if you do not understand a question or answer.
- Be honest and be yourself.
Avoid these pitfalls:
- Showing up late or unprepared
- Treating the interview casually or showing lack of interest
- Answering questions the way you think the interviewer wants you to answer
- Allowing for distractions during the interview, such as leaving your cellphone ringer on, texting or chewing gum
- Showing frustration or making up a response if you do not know the answer to a question
