Effects of Ultrasonic Toothbrushes on St. Jude Medical Implantable Cardiac Rhythm Devices
Ultrasonic toothbrushes use ultrasonic waves to break up plaque on the teeth and gums.
Ultrasonic and other standard electric toothbrushes should not interfere with implantable pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). Informal testing conducted on two models of ultrasonic toothbrushes demonstrated no adverse interaction with our pacemakers or ICDs. In addition, there have been no patient or clinical reports of any interaction between ultrasonic toothbrushes and pacemakers or ICDs.
